Through investment in people, support for innovation, and development of strategic Partnerships, Egypt Nanotechnology Center will actively lead the nation in conducting globally recognized scientific research and producing practical innovations that have a significant impact on the national economy.
The center is funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF) and The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
The first group of Egyptian researchers is currently working with IBM experts in IBM Research laboratories in Yorktown Heights, NY, USA and Zurich, Switzerland. The initial research focus is on: thin film silicon photovoltaics, graphene transparent electrodes for thin film photovoltaics, energy recovery from concentrator photovoltaics for water desalination, computational modeling and simulation and more recently biosensors. These areas have been selected because of their scientific relevance and their potential impact on the economic development of Egypt.
